"Election by election, state by state, precinct by precinct, door by door, vote by vote....we're going to lift our Party up and take this country back for the people who built it." -- Howard Dean
When Howard Dean launched his candidacy for president, I was inspired by his call for a people-powered government and his straight talk about how we needed to address the problems facing our country. He was the only candidate who would speak out forcefully and directly and say many of the things I was saying to myself and to my friends.
We needed then and need now leaders in our government who represent the interests of everyday working men and women. Who aren't beholden to corporate interests or large political donors. People who recognize the value of small businesses and who aren't ready to rubber-stamp business and corporate consolidation that stifle competition. We need to bring back jobs from overseas and insure those jobs pay a living wage. We need representatives who will protect Social Security and work for an affordable health care system. We need fair taxes and we need to remove the burden of government deficits from our children.
We need responsible and responsive government.
I want to be a part of achieving those goals. As a member of the Howard County Democratic Central Committee I will be your voice and your representative in the local Democratic Party. I will work to build the party into a dynamic, responsive vehicle for change. I will fight for a people-powered Democratic Party and a people-powered government.
